Reading Notes: Week 2 Extra Credit
I have decided for this week's extra credit reading to watch the 3 videos that were posted. For me, when I am learning new material, I try and watch documentaries or videos to supplement my reading. This makes it fun and simpler to grasp new concepts. I am also able to remember more from a video.
-Rama is an avatar of the God Vishnu.
-He is also an archer.
-The story was originally told through oral traditions, so there are many different versions.
-The story has Hindu origins.
-Rama's Father has 3 wives and 3 other sons.
-Rama tries to marry a daughter from another kingdom
-Rama becomes king...and the drama begins.
Overall this video is great at outlining the background of who Rama is and what he does in the story on Ramayana. I actually learned more detailed things about Rama's backstory.
2.Ramayana and Diwali
-Rama was exiled with his wife and younger brother because his father's wife was jealous of Rama.
-They were exiled for 14 years.
-A demon tried to win the hearts of Rama and his brother.
-She failed and the brother cut off her nose and ears.
-His wife was kidnapped by the demon king.
-He partnered with the monkeys
-They found his wife.
-There was a battle.
-By shooting the demon in the navel, Rama was able to win.
Overall this video showed a snippet of Rama's life after he married this wife. I really enjoyed this story because it showed how jealousy does not win. Even though the step-mother was jealous of Rama, he was still able to win battles and return back to the kingdom.
3.Ramayana Epic: Live
I did not enjoy this video at all. It was hard to focus with the voiceover not matching the footage of the video. I feel like Ramayana live would be good to watch in person, rather than a video.
