Time Strategies

Image
Since I will study abroad this semester, I plan on work ahead as much as possible. The best way for me to do this will be to set out Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (and possibly Sundays) to complete my assignments. I know it will not be easy, but I can do it! Two articles that can to my attention in this assignment were: The Important Habit of Just Starting  by Jory Mackay This article outlines the idea that you should just do something. He does not say that you have to be the best to get your task done, you just have to build up the intention and habit to get something done. I think that this is very realistic to how I live my life. I try to always get something done every day.  4 Questions to Help You Overcome Procrastination  by Peter Banerjea            One idea that Banerjea talked about in his article was to create a list of 3 things to get done. I                could use this techniq...

Technology

Image
(Image Taken From Google ) When it comes to technology, I am pretty well versed in blogging and editing. After reviewing the outline of the technology that we will use throughout the semester, I have enough experience to complete the assignments. Two years ago, I took an online class and we only stuck to blogging through D2L (the platform before canvas). So, this style of blogging through Google seems more permanent. By the end of the class, we will be able to look back on everything that we have learned.

Assignments

(Image Information: personal photo me in Las Vegas; photo from January 2017.) Good Afternoon Everyone! As I have started to finish up the last part of the week 1 assignment list, I have gained an understanding of how this class will be for the rest of the semester. I really like how every assignment is outlined and very easy to understand. I also am thankful that this class is very flexible. I am very interested in learning about these epics, but less stressful knowing that I can take my time to understand the material. I am most excited about the project. It is a very fun way to learn about the stories that we will be reading throughout the semester. It is very different than the traditional lectures that I have taken during my time at OU. I am also looking forward to talking with the other students taking this course. Although it is online, there is still a sense of community with the commenting section of the assignments. Good Luck to everyone this semester! -Kelsea Lon...

Growth Mindset

Image
(Image Source:  Anand Padmanabhan's "Growth Mindset" ) Before the start of this lesson, I have never heard of the name "Carol Dweck." After watching her video on growth mindset, I have learned more about this topic. She draws attention to that learning should basically allow people to fail and growth from their experiences. I completely agree to this because one failer cannot possibly determine the quality of a person's work. People need to be able to "develop."  She also says that people need to be challenged. The challenge of a task leads to this personal development. When it comes to my own habits regarding my education, I completely agree with her teaching. I always take the point of view of that I do not know everything, but my classes are there to help me expand my view of the subject. With that, I am very excited about this lecture because I do not know what is in store for me. I have never read an epic from India before. I want to s...

Introduction to a Traveler

Image
(Image Information: personal photo me in Taiwan; photo from June 2017.)     Hello Everyone! My name is Kelsea Long. I am currently a senior at the University of Oklahoma majoring in International Studies with 3 minors.   Throughout my time at OU, I have had the opportunity to study abroad 2 times. I chose to go to Seoul, South Korea each time. I started learning Korean at a young age, so I was able to adjust to Korean life very fast. During my stay there, I was not only a student, but I also worked at an NGO in marketing to help with North Korean defectors. This experience for me really changed my point of view because I was able to learn about other cultures while learning more about myself.    As soon as I turned 18, I did not know what to do with my life, I always followed what my friends were doing. But, when I first studied abroad, I wanted to take the time to learn what I wanted to do and what makes me happy. This drive helped me to...

Storybook Favorites

Image Source: Wikimedia : Damayanti Choosing a Husband 1.  Gossip Girl Ayodhya    First impressions of a story are often given by the title. For this storybook, I am not sure what to expect from just seeing the title alone. I am not sure what Ayodhya is, is it a town? The name of a person? Outside of not knowing Ayodhya, the theme of using Gossip Girl will ensure that their story will have a lot of drama.    After going to the introduction, everything becomes clearer. I liked how the author uses the color blocking to separate the text; I would like to use this on my own blog. Also, using a popular show to explain the epic was a good idea. This makes the material easier to understand. 2.  Gambling & Curses Lose: Real Love Wins    The title of this blog implies that the author will explain a love story. From first glances, I like how they set up their blog. It looks very put together and easy to navigate. When it comes to the image...

A Spot Halfway Around the World: My Favorite Place

Image
(Image Information: personal photo of the Han River in Seoul, South Korea; photo from May 2017.) This may not be the highest quality photo to exist, but it is an image of my favorite place in the entire world. I lived in Seoul, South Korea for two years. During my time there I was able to quickly take this picture while riding the subway to get to my internship. I crossed the Han River nearly every day while I was there. Not only was the river calming to me during the busiest of rush hours on the subway, I would also go there almost every weekend to relax with my friends. My best memories are set by this river. I hope one day you are able to travel to Seoul to see this amazing place!
