Reading Notes: Mahabharata Part B Extra Reading

Image
---I missed the Part B Reading for this week. So, I will use this assignment as my extra credit reading.--- My Top 3 Readings from Part B from the Public Domain Edition of  Mahabharata : Source 1. The House of Fire - Prince  Duryodhana  was plotting against  Prince  Vidura   -Vidura's mom was a slave -Could not rule the kingdom - Prince Yudhishthira and his brothers were in danger - Prince Duryodhana was trying to kill Yudhishthira -Vidura came up with a plan to dig a hole in the place for everyone to escape from a fire - Prince Bhima set fire to the house, killing  the guard and Purochana -The fire accidentally killed a poor woman and her children This story, so far, has been the most interesting for me. I liked how this section had action and a moral to it as well. Although the fire could have been seen as a good act, they were just being played by evil. Innocent people lost their lives, while everyone thought that Duryodhana survived.  Source .  The India

My Top 3 Readings from Part A from the Public Domain Edition of  Mahabharata : 1. Vyasa and Ganesha -Vyasa is an important character and influence, author -Nobody was worth enough to write down the story -Ganesha the god would be the scribe for his story -Birth Story -  Uparichara, king of  Chedi  dropped his semen into a river -A fish became pregnant  -The children were taken in by fisherman -The boy was given to the King This is the first section of the epic, so it holds a lot of importance to set up the story. I thought that this origin story was quite interesting and complex from the start.  The first part is from  Indian Myth and Legend  by Donald A. Mackenzie (1913), and the second part is from the  Mahabharata  translated by K. M. Ganguli (1883) 2. Kunti and Her Son -King Pandu had 2 wives, " Kunti , who was chief  rani , and  Madri , whom he loved best." -Kunti and the Sun God gave birth to Karna -She tried to hide her child -She put her child in

Tech Tip: Pinterest Search

Image
Pinterest is arguably the best app ever created. I use this app daily. It is a very good platform to get inspiration for different projects. Once this class started, I realized that I could use this app for this class as well. I suggest using the search bar for looking up more details or guides about Rama. Or, if you do the extra credit, you can look up memes. As an example, I have included a screenshot of me using the search bar to look up images of Rama that I could include in my later blog posts. It was super simple and easy to use. The app also gives suggestions to other topics that I would be interested in as well. Personal Screenshot of Pinterest Search of Rama

Learning Challenge: Catching Some Zzzz

Why Sleeping May Be More Important Than Studying By  Katrina Schwartz One thing that I already knew about sleep was that it is important to your mental health. But, it is very challenging to get the right about of sleep every night. One new thing that I learned while reading this article was that many children are facing serious sleep derivation issues. This is affects test scores around the country. The study conducted was to see what happens with a child is able to properly rest. By sleeping, children are able to retain and recall more information. One thing that this article has inspired me to do is to stop cramming. By cramming in essays or projects at the last minute, I am not able to sleep overnight. This leads to my work not having as good of quality and my personality changes depending on how tired I am. Growth Mindset: Acronmys

Image
This I have challenged myself to create an acronym that embodies the concept of growth mindset. TFC: Time, Find, Create. These are three words that help me understand growth. The inspiration to creating this was looking at my keyboard. TFC were letters that stood out to me. T ime: You have to take the time to reflect on your actions or thoughts to correct your wrongdoings. F ind: Finding yourself is key to growth mindset because you are pushing to understand how you think and act. C reate: Creating new projects or opportunities for your life is including in developing a growth mindset because it gives an opportunity to be out of your comfort zone. Source

Famous Last Words: Finding Balance

This week has been absolutely amazing! I arrived to the U.K. for a short trip before I go to Germany. I have loved every second here. I have been to London, Cardiff, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow, Stirling, Stonehaven, and Edinburgh. Words cannot describe how thankful I am to be here. So far, my favorite city has to be Glasgow in Scotland. I honestly did not know this city existed before I started planning my trip. But, a good friend of mine lives there, so I was able to meet her again and meet her friends. I was there for National Pancake Day. It is so crazy to see that pancakes are crepes here. I was not expecting that. As for the weather, I have somehow not see too many rainy days here. The U.K. is famous for rain, but I have been so luckily so far. It has been either cloudy or sunny. Plus, it is the off season for tourists, it has not been crowded. (Personal Photo of Me at Stirling Castle in Stirling, Scotland) Because of my travels, I was not able to post properly for t

Week 5 Review

This week went by so fast. When I was looking back at the posts from earlier this week, I noticed the pictures of bangles . When I was little, I used to wear them all of the time. I did not realize that the word came from India. It is really interesting to see which aspects of cultures around the world become common in the U.S. Source As for the video, I decided to watch Ram's Secret - Part 1 | 7 Secrets of Vishnu . I am still trying to understand the role of Vishnu in the culutre of India. So, this video gave me more insight and the understanding that Vishnu, in relation to our readings, Rama is an avatar of Vishnu that gives into "animal instincts."

Rama Attacks -Rama is in Lanka -Trying to find Sita -Ravana has spies on Lanka -Sita is told that Rama is dead  -Ravana is enraged that Rama is on his way This story serves as a point when Rama and Sita are separated. Rama has been trying to do whatever it takes to get her back. Although Ravana has spies, that does not protect him from the power of Rama. Source .  Myths of the Hindus and Buddhists   by Sister Nivedita (1914). 2. Sita and Rama -Rama looks for Sita -Hanuman found her -Sita says "I desire to behold my lord" -She is brought to Rama - "O gentle one, I have subdued thy foe and wiped away the stain upon my honor.
