Growth Mindset: A Beginning

Image
A crucial part of having a growth mindset is to be able to listen to other people. After looking through different quotes or experiences, I have found two insights that stood out to me.  1. " Reflection is crucial when you are having a hard time learning, and need to reflect on WHY you are having a hard time". This means that you need to take a step back and look at what you are doing. From personal experience, it is so hard for me to do this. I try to avoid something if I fail or I am not good at it. To reflect on something, you have to go back to it. I will try to reflect on my assignments this semester. 2." F orgetting I s S ometimes H ard C hoosing H appiness I s P ossible" This is such a fun way to understand the growth mindset. It is always an option to be happy. I forget this sometimes when I fail. This semester, I will have to remember this. It is so important to keep moving and more linger on your mistakes. ( Meme )

Tech Tip: Blogger Template

This week, I have experimented with the template of my blog. I originally went for the basic design at first. Once I discovered that I would change the template, I spent a day looking at the designs. After looking and testing a few different options, the pink design matched with the theme that I am wanting to have for this course. I hope that you all are able to find a design that you enjoy. If you have any questions, please just leave a comment.

Reading Notes: Week 2 Extra Credit

Image
I have decided for this week's extra credit reading to watch the 3 videos that were posted. For me, when I am learning new material, I try and watch documentaries or videos to supplement my reading. This makes it fun and simpler to grasp new concepts. I am also able to remember more from a video.  (Source: Rama ) 1. Crash Course Mythology: Ramayana -Rama is an avatar of the God Vishnu. -He is also an archer. -The story was originally told through oral traditions, so there are many different versions. -The story has Hindu origins. -Rama's Father has 3 wives and 3 other sons.   -Rama tries to marry a daughter from another kingdom -Rama becomes king...and the drama begins. Overall this video is great at outlining the background of who Rama is and what he does in the story on Ramayana. I actually learned more detailed things about Rama's backstory. 2. Ramayana and Diwali -Rama was exiled with his wife and younger brother because his father's ...

Feedback Thoughts

Image
(Image Source: Meme ) Feedback is so crucial to a person's development. By receiving feedback, I am able to learn from my mistakes or take an idea even further. Two articles that I read in relation to success and failure were  6 Mental Habits That Sabotage Your Success  and  8 Things to Do When You Make a Mistake . 6 habits that hinder success include listening to your own self-doubt or trying to seek approval from others. In short, the article says that you should try to be open with yourself and allow yourself to fail. Others and your own self can stop you from even trying.  The second article address the issue of what happens when you fail. The main idea was that people make mistakes. It is a normal occurrence. Once you fail, you just need to be open to fixing the problem to become better (a.k.a. listen to feedback). Honestly, I love hearing feedback if I am wrong. That is the only way that I can change. In the past, I have always been given ...

Topic Brainstorm

Image
For my project this semester I have found 4 possible inspirations for my storybook: (Image of Rama ) 1.   Abhimanyu: Star-Crossed Prince  (Volume 533) I picked this story because royalty is always interesting to me. Since I am interested in the life of the prince, I feel like I am more likely to get involved with the story. I have no background on Abhimanyu, so everything would be new to me. As for the storybook, I could use his life and battles as the backdrop to a new storyline.  Source Link 2. Rama: Retold from the Ramayana  (Volume 504) Rama is already a solid character and symbol in the epic. Again, he is royalty and born to important parents. This will always add drama to a story. I would be able to add new adventures to his life and I would be able to add backstories as well. Rama also has a love connection so it would be fun to explore that side of him. This story would have a lot of room to be creative. Source L...

Week 2 Story: Always the Villain

Image
Notice: This Story will be used in my portfolio this semester.  WEBSITE LINK (Image Taken From Google ) There once was a pond deep in the middle of nowhere. This pond was special because there was an abundance of fish and wildlife. Among the wildlife, there was a crane. This crane was no ordinary crane, he was lonelier than the rest. Day by day, he would befriend the fish in the pond because of his lack of crane friends. Crane: "Hey guys! How are you today?" The Fish (in unison): "Hey crane! We are good. Do you want to play with us today?" In response, the Crane agreed. He just wanted to have some friends. Being a crane is a lonely life. As time passed, he grew hungry from playing in the water. It was getting closer to his lunchtime. We suggested to the fish that they play by a tree. He did not know that fish could not breathe out of the water. During the first trip across the pond, the fish died. Because he was hungry, it decided it was best t...

Reading Notes: Jatakas

Image
After reading the short anthology, I have decided my top three stories from the collection ( Two Turtle Jatakas , The Cunning Crane and the Crab , and The Crocodile and the Monkey's Heart ). To begin, the Two Turtle Jatakas comes from Jataka Tales by Ellen C. Babbitt. "The Turtle and the King" was a story about how a couple of kids wanted the king to put fish into the lake. But, with the fish came one turtle. The people did not know how to react to this creature. They were afraid. So naturally, the king ordered to have it killed. This story would be a great base for my semester project because it shows how things aren't always what it seems. The second story about the crane and the crab, based off of The Giant Crab, and Other Tales from Old India by W. H. D. Rouse . This story also has a great life lesson; don't trust everything that everyone tells you. The crane is a great character because he is able to gain the trust of all of the fish in the pond. During...

Reading Options

Image
After looking at all of the different reading options for this semester, here is a list of my top 3 choices: 1.   Narayan's  Ramayana . R. K. Narayan (1906-2001)     This option seems best for my reading style. The book is laid more traditional compared to the other option. I am very excited to get to read this book next week. 2.  Narayan's  Mahabharata . R. K. Narayan (1906-2001)    I chose to go with another Narayan novel because of the more modern language and the material seems easier to read. I want to make such that I understand what is going on in the stories.  3.  Mahabharata: Karmic Revolution    As the semester comes to a close, I would like to finish with a movie. I always seem to retain a lot of information from more visual media. I am also excited to see how the film ties in with the rest of the semester. (Image taken from Google )
