Growth Mindset: Outside of the Campus

Going back to the meaning of growth mindset, one version of the definition is to stay open to new ideas or different ways of thinking to improve your own mindset. Since I like to travel, there are times when I am ignorant of different cultures because I have never had the chance to interact with people from that country. Each time I travel somewhere new, I try and take in a new culture by trying to understand why the people there act the way that they do. This in the future helps me grow my personal mindset and take down my personal stereotype that I had.

I am currently a senior at the University of Oklahoma majoring in International Studies with 3 minors.   Throughout my time at OU, I have had the opportunity to study abroad 2 times. I chose to go to Seoul, South Korea each time. I started learning Korean at a young age, so I was able to adjust to Korean life very fast. During my stay there, I was not only a student, but I also worked at an NGO in marketing to help with North Korean defectors. This pond was special because there was an abundance of fish and wildlife. Among the wildlife, there was a crane. This crane was no ordinary crane, he was lonelier than the rest. Day by day, he would befriend the fish in the pond because of his lack of crane friends. Crane: "Hey guys! How are you today?" The Fish (in unison): "Hey crane! We are good. Do you want to play with us today?" In response, the Crane agreed. He just wanted to have some friends. Being a crane is a lonely life. As time passed, he grew hungry from playing in the water.
