Week 13 Story: How much is too much?

How Much Is Too Much?
Version 1

Once upon a time there was a girl that lived in a small town outside of the city. Generations upon generations of her family came from this town. Each person in her family struggled to make ends meet. They were not educated, nor did they have the option to educate themselves. Because they were not able to get well paid jobs, or any job for that matter, they resorted to selling fruits on the side of the road.
This business was not the best to support the girl and her 3 siblings. They were not able to even attend primary school because they needed to work. One day a man noticed them and decided to help. This man was no one special; nobody even knew his name. The man was not a billionaire or a man of the government; he was a simple guy that people did not pay attention to.
The guy approached the girl and told her that he would be able to support his family. She refused at first. She thought, “Why do we need your pity money?” As time passed, the family was forced out of their home because they could make enough money. Out of desperation, they turned to the man for help. He gave them the money, but in exchange they would have to work in his home.
Nobody knew where he lived at first. After driving through the mountains, they came across a mansion in the middle of nowhere. This mansion was filled with fine art from across the world and jewels.

Author’s Note:
A couple of weeks ago I read a story about a “golden goose.” This story opened up about a poor family that was struggling to get by. A goose noticed this family and decided to help them out by giving his feathers to sell to make money. This family became rich from the goose. But their greed also grew. By the end of the story, they took all of the special feathers from the animal. As soon as they took the feathers, they lost their value. The goose never returned.
I decided to adapt this story because it shows how extremely greedy people can become when it comes to finances. But, I decided to change the meaning to make it seem that people do not always take advantage of the people helping them.

  1. Hello!

I really like the twist you gave to this story. Your story is much more happier, although the family is still struggling, because in the end they realize their mistake and are still able to live better off than they were. When I read the Golden Goose story, I felt so bad for the goose and was kind of angry at the family because they were so greedy. Your story made me understand the family more, because I've also been too quick to judge. I think other people can relate to your story as well. Good job!

  2. Hello again Kelsea! I like how you took a source story and made a whole new story out of it with an all new setting and characters. You do a good job of keeping the source materials message, but adding your own flair to it. I didn't like the ending to the original story either and I'm glad you added a different spin to the end of your story.

  3. Hi Kelsea! I like your take on this story, it was much more positive than the other one. In the original, they take advantage of the goose, but in this one, the man was helping them, so they did not take advantage of him. It ended happier than the Golden Goose story and I really liked that!
