Reading Notes: Ramayana Part C

My Top 3 Readings from Part C from the Public Domain Edition of Ramayana:

1. The Rainy Season
-Sugriva become king
-Rama cannot enter the city
-The rainy season starts
-The king will help Rama find Sita
-Rama has a big monolouge
  -Sorrow
-He is in distress without Sita
-"Blow back to me her kisses sweet"
  -"tortures me incessantly"

Overall, Rama cannot fuction without Sita. He has reached a low point in his life. I really enjoyed reading this section of the epic because it makes Rama more relatable. Although he is a prince, Rama is still a man that was in love.

The first verse portion comes from Ramayana, The Epic of Rama, Prince of Indiacondensed into English verse by Romesh Dutt (1899), and the second verse portion comes from Relatives by Arthur William Ryder (1919): page text

2.Ramayana: Sampati
-Sampati is Jatayu's brother
-There is a search for Sita
-Sita is not dead
-Sita was taken by Ravana
-She was taken to Lanka

This story gives hope in finding Sita. Without Sita, Rama is lost. So, it is important to find her and include her back in Rama's life. Sampati acts a direction for the search of her.

Myths of the Hindus and Buddhists by Sister Nivedita (1914).

3.Hanuman and Sita
-The story takes place in Lanka
-Sita and Hanuman finally meet
-Hanuman offers to help Sita
-Sita still wants Rama
-He warns her that Rama is coming

There is hope. The story is starting to build up to when Rama will meet Sita. We have seen a lot about how Rama has been handleing his feelings, but Sita does not have as big of a role in the eipc. Sh e is his support.

Source. The prose portion comes from Indian Myth and Legend by Donald A. Mackenzie (1913), and the verse portion comes from Ramayana, The Epic of Rama, Prince of India, condensed into English verse by Romesh Dutt (1899).
